I can certainly be a messy baker.  Just ask my dad!  When I lived with my parents my dad would pull a face every time I announced I was going to bake.  Not that he didn't like the end result - he'd certainly demolish that, but because he knew only too well that the process of me making something delectable would result in the kitchen looking like a bomb site!

Tomatoes

With one half of the household being vegetarian, tomatoes feature quite heavily in our cooking.  That might be lasagne, home-made pizza, tagliatelle, casseroles, and the obligatory salad.  It's incredibly rare that I would make a cream based sauce, so it's just as well that Mr E likes tomatoes!

I adore cheesecake!

I can quite honestly say that it's in my top 10 of all-time great desserts.  Quite possibly in my top 5.  Now, considering I have a serious sweet tooth, a dessert falling into my top 5 is going some.

If a cheesecake is listed on a restaurant / tearoom menu, the odds would be quite short in favour of me ordering said cheesecake.  If that cheesecake included rhubarb, then those odds would be even shorter.  And, if that same cheesecake included chocolate.... well you know where I'm going here, I'm definitely going to order it!

Chocolate Truffle Gift Box




This year I've made some lovely home made chocolate truffles for mother's day, you can read how I made them here.  I always find that home made gifts are well received, after all I think that there's more thought goes into them.

Now that I've made the truffles, I need to present them to her beautifully.  I could purchase  a box from a shop or via the internet but given that the truffles are handcrafted, I thought "why not make my own chocolate box!"

So I did!

Well, Mother's Day is fast approaching, 15th March, and this year I've decided to make my lovely mum some confectionary in the form of chocolate truffles!

What better way to show your mum how much you love her than with something made by yourself.  And of course you don't just have to give them to your mum; you could use the idea as a "thank you" gift, as we did for our vet a few months ago.

Hello & welcome to Only Crumbs Remain!



My name is Angela, a lover of baking, from the UK.  This passion for baking and home cooking stems from my childhood.  I have very clear memories of baking with my mum and late maternal grandma, Kathleen, who certainly nurtured that budding creativity.

Living in Yorkshire, God's Own County, (towards the north east of England), I shall use this corner of the internet to share my love of baking with you.  That may include cake recipes, a sprinkling of vegetarian dishes, a dash of restaurant / café reviews and a soupçon of kitchenalia.  I'd like to think that it will inspire you to pop on your pinny and get out the flour and sugar.

The recipes, for the most part, shall be straight forward, home cooking fare. I want baking and cooking to be accessible for all, young and old, and for the nervous and novice baker to feel "I can do that".  That's not to say that there won't be the occasional more involved recipe.   I shall aim to suggest the cost of the recipe, be that sweet or savoury, and the creative time required to make it; after all, most of us don't have a vast amount of spare cash and/or time.
